Museum of wooden sculpture of carver S. S. Shavrov

The name of Semyon Shavrov, a Belarusian woodcarver, is known in our city to everyone who is even slightly interested in art and folk art. The famous Orsha amateur woodcarver Semyon Shavrov is a man of great talent. This definition has become the usual assessment of the creativity of a very interesting, bright, multifaceted master...

But the works for mass familiarization can be available only in a museum, as each of them is the only one in the literal sense of the word.

And then Semen Shavrov for the organization of exhibitions gives the city of Orsha his house on Krasina Street, 26. Thus, the Museum of Wooden Sculpture of carver S. S. Shavrov — a branch of the Institution of Culture "Museum Complex of History and Culture of Orsha" was founded in his private house by the decision of Orsha City Council of People's Deputies and Orsha City Executive Committee Culture Department. It didn't take long and on June 25, 1992 the museum received its first visitors. A workshop was built on the territory of the museum. This is where Shavrov continued to create images and pass his skills to his students.

S. Shavrov died on February, 10, 2000, but it is significant for this outstanding carver and the People's master of Belarus, first of all, not by the years lived, but by the great things he managed to do.

At first, the museum had 19 sculptures donated by the author. These works helped to create an exposition that illustrated the variety of genre subjects and the innovative nature of his art. The second building, a wood-carving studio, harmoniously added to the exposition structure.

Today, on the territory of museum, in a beautiful apple orchard, there is an open-air "Fairy Glade". Here, among the fairy-tale characters, in a cozy pavilion museum staff organizes magical holidays: whether it's a wedding or a birthday party, or the brightest New Year in the lives of visitors ... If you come in the "right" season — you can enjoy sweet juicy apples from the garden of master Shavrov. Here, away from dusty roads and the bustle of the city, the followers of the famous carver still teach this fine craftsmanship to their students, passing on the invaluable experience of the People's Master of Belarus S. S. Sharov.
